Black Ops 4, Three Months Later
I've been playing a lot of Black Ops 4... A lot. It's pretty much my main game, I look at other stuff and want to play it but I still grab my Xbox Controller and boot up Black Ops 4. I'm pretty sure Resident Evil 2 remake and Kingdom Hearts 3 will steal me away, at least for a short time but yeah, I've been waiting a long time for those two, admittedly I was expecting a RE2 rebirth Ala RE1 rebirth, but what Capcom has shown so far, I'm good with what's coming soon.
So back to Black Ops 4, I've been seeing a fair bit of hate directed at it the last few days, mainly because Treyarch, God forbid, took some Christmas time off. I know it needs some tweaks and there are some bugs out there, but overall, the game is pretty solid. I main multiplayer and I've only recently been playing Blackout exclusively for the tier skip, but my experience in both modes from a balancing and bug perspective is fine.
I used to have a lot of issues with end match crashes in multiplayer and they were really starting to annoy me, but that issue has been gone since December I think, other than that I rarely have a crash if any. I hate that the create-a-class menu lags like hell during the pre-game lobby, I'd like to see that patched.
The guns are pretty much fine for the most part, the Titan is obviously a little too omnipotent still. I always thought it was weird the Titan has a bigger clip than the Hades, given the nature of the Hades I would've banked that for the higher clip size.
The sniper rifles, at least all but the Paladin (I've yet to use it) are crap, a big ol' cup of crap. Lots of sway, no target assist and every map bar two has poor long sight lines, sniping in this game is a chore. I'm still baffled why I chose to max level all the guns but yeah, the sniper rifles are killing me. Especially the Koshka, I went from Outlaw which I was sure would be the worst of them all to the SDM, minor improvement but wow, the Koshka is awful. Even with high caliber it's damage is comparable to the outlaw but a slower fire rate and no stabiliser. Lots of fun.
I played Madagascar and Escalation, I liked Escalation quite a bit, which I must be on my own about because that map gets hate. It's been over a month and these two maps are still not in rotation, this is too long. The only way to play them is in an exclusive playlist and playing the same two maps over and over again is tiring.
I'm still someway off from completing the goals I set myself and I'm already eye balling up trying to get some gold camos, something I never normally do.
The thing is, this game which can frustrate the hell out of me I absolutely love. And I love it because I'm good at it, I can play a match choose pretty much any gun (bar a sniper rifle) and do well, I gel with this game. Nothing is more addictive than that sense of superiority and I need that once in a while. Life is tough, my job is hard right now and I have little downtime so Black Ops 4 is my pick me up.
I know people are hating on the specialists, and yes, they're weapons and equipment are very effective. They're not straight up free kills to help the newbies out, they're just generally overpowered, but then again. Black Ops 4 had a huge change in gameplay judging from the rumors we had last year. They wanted the specialists to be more overpowered and have a bigger affect on matches. The aim was to improve team play, but the COD community is full of lone wolves, so it means is that players will choose only their preference regardless of map, mode or other teammates specialist choice.
A specialist free mode would be nice, it'll help with some challenges definitely. Not sure if we're going to see it, despite how vocal the community has been about getting it, Treyarch has given no hint they're listening.
Three months in we've got a strong game that's pretty well balanced thus far and has a lot of content, but the new maps need entering into rotation as soon as possible and why is a gun at rank 100 in the contraband, you almost never see the SWAT RFT and I've found it always in Blackout and it's a real nice gun to use.
So Treyarch, make future new guns unlock in earlier tiers, save the fancy armor for later!
